Measure the window from edge to edge. Fit the pole 15 cm above and let it overrun 15–20 cm each side: the window reads larger and light still comes in. Order a curtain width 2 to 2.5 times the window: full folds dress the room and trap air, which helps soundproof and thermal insulation.

The drop
Measure from the top of the pole to the floor. Curtains should kiss the floor, or break 1–2 cm onto it. Stopping short makes the room feel smaller and lets draughts through.

It is not silence. Bass from traffic still comes through. They say minus 22 dB, not a sealed room, and that is honest. Voices and the mid noise drop. Colleagues stopped asking me to repeat. Evenings, we use the room again instead of hiding in the back.
Coverage is the whole trick. Ready-made always leaked at the sides; that leak was the noise. Made-to-measure, extra width as they recommend, the panel actually covers the reveal. Sleep over the bar downstairs is not perfect. Door slams no longer wake me.
I felt the sample first. Thick polyester “soundproof” linings I had tried were costume. This has weight and a proper close. If you want cinema hush, this is the wrong product. If you have a real window on a real street, this is the purchase I would make again.

No, and no textile does. Bass frequencies and vibration (a subwoofer, engines, impact noise) travel through the building: only the mass of a wall stops them. The curtain works on airborne mid-to-high noise, not on vibration.

If the hang leaves gaps, yes. To seal the window: overlap 15 cm on each side, fix the rail as close to the ceiling as you can, and let the cloth skim the floor. Sound gets in the way air does.
